The Iroda SolderPro 110K gas soldering iron makes it easy to solder wires together correctly

The Iroda SolderPro 110K is a versatile gas soldering iron that is ideal for making soldered connections between wires. The small form factor and not having a trailing lead make it easy to use at any angle, and the high heat output makes it easy to get enough heat to solder heavy gauge wiring as well as lighter gauges.

The best electrical connection between two wires is a soldered connection, and the Iroda SolderPro 110K gas soldering iron makes it easy to solder wires together correctly. Well soldered wire connections with heatshrink insulation will give you a long lasting result that resists corrosion and maximizes conductivity.

Why is the Iroda SolderPro 110K gas soldering iron good for soldered electrical wire connections?

There are many Iroda Professional soldering irons that can be used for soldering wires together, but heat transfer is important for soldered connections, so using one of the more powerful soldering irons will be quicker, and may be necessary for heavy gauge wires. The SolderPro 110K has high heat output that enables rapid melting of the solder into the wire without overheating insulation or nearby components.

An expert tip for twisting wires together for electrical connections

If you find it difficult to manipulate the wires, you can strip excess wire, twist the wires together using the extra length to increase your leverage and then clip off the extra at the ends with a side cutter as shown in the picture above.

You can use lower powered Iroda soldering irons for lighter wiring. The Lithium battery powered Pro 25L is extremely convenient for light wires used in electronics, but the Iroda SolderPro 110K has the power to be able to solder together wires of almost any thickness without sacrificing ergonomics for ease of handling in awkward places.

How do you strip insulation and twist electrical wires together?

You can use any type of wire stripper to remove the insulation from the end of the electrical wires you are joining, a simple, portable option is to use a pair of electricians side cutters that have slots in the cutting edge for standard wire gauges. At the other end of the scale are much more complex automatic strippers that detect the gauge, cut and remove the insulation in one continuous action.

Using the Iroda SolderPro 110K gas soldering iron to join electrical wires

To effectively solder any connection, either to join wires together or to fit a component into a PCB, the secret is to apply heat to the wire, component leg, or joint you want the solder to flow onto and rest the solder against the component and not the soldering iron tip. Rest the flat chisel tip of the soldering iron against the wires and set it on a moderate to high heat setting.

  1. Use the flat chisel tip of the soldering iron to transfer heat to the wires
  2. Hold the solder against the wire bundle, not the soldering iron
  3. The solder will melt into the wire bundle when it has reached the correct temperature

When the temperature of the component reaches the melting point of the solder the solder will melt and flow smoothly and evenly over the component. When soldering wires, a small amount of solder on the chisel tip increases the surface area for heat transfer between the tip and the wire bundle and makes the wires heat up faster to the solder melting point.

Feed the solder into the wire bundle from the side opposite where you are heating the wires with the soldering iron. This ensures even soldering with excellent flow into the joint. Stop feeding solder into the joint almost immediately after it starts to flow, as it will very rapidly melt and fill the gaps in the wires.

How to heatshrink to your soldered connection with a gas soldering iron

The Iroda SolderPro 110K can make heatshrink soldered butt connections, so it is easily powerful enough to rapidly make an effective watertight heatshrink seal around your new soldered electrical joint. This is because the heater tip for the Iroda SolderPro 110K is a multi-purpose heating tool with a high heat output, so you will want to set the power to a low setting before working on your heatshrink.

The Iroda SolderPro 110K gas soldering iron also has a fold-out stand, which enables you to use the soldering iron hands-free if you are making a heatshrink connection between components you can turn in your hands to get even heating. You will be able to do this with many small workshop electrical projects, so it’s worth keeping it in mind if it would make it easier to do the heatshrink stage.

You may or may not want to use the curved heat shield attached to the heater tip of your Iroda gas soldering iron. It is useful for containing the heat and spreading it evenly around the heatshrink, protecting nearby components and wiring, but it may intensify the heat as well. If you are using the heat shield, turning down your soldering iron is essential before doing the heatshrink to avoid burning the insulation.

How good is the Iroda SolderPro 110K for soldering electrical wire?

The Iroda SolderPro 110K does an excellent job of soldering electrical wires together. The standard chisel tip is a good size for making solder joins in most wire gauges and having the optional heat shield gives you a very quick method for evenly heating and sealing heatshrink connectors on a low setting while protecting nearby components and wires. Overall, a very versatile gas soldering iron that has plenty of power for demanding jobs but also is easily managed for when you need to do precision work.
